Veterans Day originated as Armistice Day. November 11th is the anniversary of the signing of the armistice which ended hostilities in World War I between Germany and the Allied Nations. Armistice Day was renamed Veterans day in 1954 and continues to be an annual celebration for those who have served the United States.

What does being a veteran mean to you?
It reminds every day of the people that are out risking their lives for the freedom we sometimes take for granted.
What inspired you to join the military?
I went in right after 9/11. If felt like the right thing to do, for my family and friends.
What do you wish civilians knew about being in the military or about veterans?
The hard work and sacrifice that military members put in on a daily basis so that they and their families can enjoy all the amenities our society provides.
What was your most memorable experience during your service?
The look on my family and friends’ faces every time I visited home in uniform. It felt good knowing I was serving for them.
What do you apply from your military service to your life today?
I believe my time in the military shaped the kind of father I am for my daughter and the lessons I’ll pass down to her.
What advice do you have for servicemen and servicewomen transitioning back into civilian life?
Be proud of being a veteran. Use your benefits and don’t be afraid to remind people of the freedoms they and their families have because of the men/women that served throughout the history of this country.
